Slim’s Fishing Derby committee regrets to announce that this years derby has been canceled.  This derby holds safety close to it’s core.  The ice conditions on both Toddy pond and Alamoosook lake are not up to the high standard that we would require to ensure a safe weekend.  This decision was the result of much discussion, and did not come easy to us.  We hope that you will join us in remembering Jimmy “Slim” Douglass, as we all finish our ice fishing season safely.

Grand Prize Drawing for 2012 includes: Otter Wild Lodge T600 Thermal Top Portable Ice Shack, Jiffy Pro 4 10″ Propane Auger, Heritage Traps, Pack Basket, Ice Scoop, Bait Bucket, and a Mr. Heater Propane Heater.

Registration is required to be eligible for any and all prizes.  Children under 12 do not need to register, but will not be eligible for door prizes

All proceeds to benefit the Jimmy Douglass Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The Jimmy Douglass Memorial Scholarships are awarded to eligible Deer-Isle Stonington High School students, and Blue Hill Peninsula High School Students, who have been accepted in to a two year program at a post-secondary community college or trade school.

Congratulations to this years major prize winners:

Matt Shepard with his 1.37lb, 14 ¾” Bass
Scott Willey with a 1.01lb, 14 3/8” Splake
Anthony Wardwell with his 1lb, 15 ¼” Brown Trout
Bill Gray with a 3.78lb, 23 ½” Togue

Bill Gray’s Togue won the category and the overall largest fish, which added a Yamaha 2 1/2hp outboard to his winnings.  Jada Butler won the pre-registration drawing for an electric auger, and Russell Bray’s name was drawn for the grand prize Otter Team Wild portable ice shelter.

In spite of less than favorable ice conditions, and winds gusting to 40+ mph, 250 people registered for the 3^rd Annual Slim’s Fishing Derby.  Only 32 fish were recorded at the two weigh stations this year, showing that Slim’s Fishing Derby is as much about a weekend outing with friends and family as it is the sport of fishing. 

With great support from a group of dedicated volunteers, local businesses, and a caring community, more than $2500 worth of prizes was awarded to derby participants, and over $3000 was raised for the Jimmy Douglass Memorial Scholarship.
